Remote lock, offline device lock and theft detection lock are the three major features that Google is working on to combat phone theft.
Theft detection lock feature uses a machine learning model that can identify when a phone has been snatched from a person and the mode of escape the thief uses, i.e. in a car or on foot.
Android smartphones go into automatic theft detection lock mode, which locks the phone immediately, preventing thieves from accessing the data on the phone.
The same happens when a thief tries to disconnect the phone from the internet for a long period of time, then an additional feature called offline device lock kicks in. The remote lock feature allows smartphone users to use the Find My Device Manager app or website to lock their stolen device remotely.
